Why Buying Local Supports Your Community

1–2 minutes

We not only grow plants, but we also handpick fresh plant stock two to three times each week. This ensures we feed the best and freshest plants to exotic animals.

This allows us to support small local growers. Rather than buying 50 cacti from one commercial grower, we enjoy the connection we have with small business owners.

Several studies have shown that buying from an independent, locally-owned business means significantly more of your money is used locally. It goes to other local businesses, service providers, and farms. As a result, it continues to strengthen the economic base of the community.

Since our home is where we shop, where we eat, learn, and have fun.  One-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the distinctive character of Eustis, Florida. It’s what distinguishes us from being here at our facility, versus a big chain department store.

Also, small local businesses are the largest employers nationally, and in our community, they provide the most jobs to residents. Therefore, let’s encourage more start-ups! Local businesses often hire people who better understand the products they are selling. They take more time to get to know customers.

Due to locally owned businesses being able to make more local purchases, there is less transportation. As a result, this generally means contributing less to sprawl, congestion, habitat loss, and pollution.

/ Furthermore, local businesses are owned by your friends and neighbors who live in this community. They are less likely to leave. They are more invested in the community’s future.

Local businesses create a stronger tax base. They allow for more efficient use of public services compared to nationally-owned stores entering the community. Because this means better public services like schools, transportation, emergency response, and more for you and your family.
