‘Indo’, the Indonesian Blue Tongue Skink, that came in through the FWC Amnesty Program, is officially looking for a home!

Indonesian blue-tongued skinks (Tiliqua gigas) are medium-sized, tropical, ground-dwelling lizards with long tails.

Indonesian blue-tongue skinks (Tiliqua gigas) inhabit tropical rainforests, savannas, and grasslands across Indonesia, New Guinea, and surrounding islands. As terrestrial, humid-tropical dwellers, they prefer areas with dense vegetation, often hiding under leaf litter, debris, or shallow burrows to escape predators.

Blue-tongued skinks have bright blue tongues primarily as a startling defense mechanism to scare off predators like birds, snakes, and goannas; when threatened. They rapidly flash their blue tongue against their red mouth, creating a vivid, intimidating display that makes them seem dangerous or poisonous, buying them precious seconds to escape. This flash involves both visible blue and UV light, which is particularly conspicuous to their natural predators, making it a highly effective bluff in their final moments of defense.

Donations directly fund essential care for exotic animals, covering their needs for vetting, diet, enrichment, and more!

Indonesian blue tongue skinks (Tiliqua gigas) are hardy, long-lived (20+ years) lizards known for being docile, rewarding pets with simple dietary needs.

‘Indo’ is omnivorous, requiring a balanced mix of protein (insects, lean meats, eggs, high-quality dog food), leafy greens (collards, dandelion, turnip greens), vegetables (squash, bell peppers, carrots), and a small amount of fruit as a treat, all dusted with calcium and multivitamin supplements for essential minerals, with a general guideline of 50-60% plant matter and 40-50% animal protein for adults.

Variety is crucial, so we cycle through different food items and always provide fresh water.

      Hi Barbara!

Yes, it is a very nice reptile. It had some personality issues when it first arrived but quickly calmed with handling. Please feel free to stop by the nursery while we are open this weekend from 10 to 2 for a meet and greet to see if you connect with “Indo”. We can talk in person about housing and care.
